Morocco plans "Automotive City"

Posted on 7:17 PM by google

By the year 2015 Morocco will have it’s own “Automotive City,” a free zone designated exclusively for the automobile industry. The free zone is expected to create up to 15,000 jobs for Moroccans and will be located between Kénitra and Sidi Yahia (40km northeast of Rabat).
“Kénitra Automotive City” will likely attract foreign investors and is part of a larger government strategy to modernize the manufacturing and industrial sectors of the country. This will utilize Morocco’s capability for true growth in relation to Europe and increase the numbers of skilled workers.

This project will enable the country to host subcontractors specializing in automobile spare parts, electronic equipment and other components and offers an attractive incentive package and competitive facilities.

In 2007, French car manufacturer Renault pledged a $1 billion plan for a factory near Tangier, which will be its largest factory in Africa eventually producing up to 400,000 cars per year. 90 percent of these cars are to be exported with the remaining ten percent slated for the Moroccan market.
